Keynote Speaker, Susan Still, Gets Rave Reviews at STANDING FIRM's 2017 Awards Luncheon
The STANDING FIRM 2017 Awards Luncheon took place on November 1st in the Grand Ballroom of the Omni William Penn Hotel. Over 300 attendees from local nonprofits, corporations, and government organizations filled the room. The keynote speaker, Susan Still, was riveting and energized the audience.
STANDING FIRM is a Program of Women's Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh which alerts employers to the financial, safety and human costs of partner violence on the workplace and workforce and equips them with tools for taking effective organizational action.
There is a business case to support the idea that employers have a crucial role to play in protecting the workplace from violence related to partner abuse and in improving productivity and worker health by addressing partner violence as a workforce issue.
Susan Still speaks on behalf of those whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence. She is a survivor of 24 years of abuse by her former husband. Their case is unique, as in December 2004 Justice John F. O’Donnell handed Ulner Still a 36 year sentence, landmark for New York State, as the longest sentence given for the crime of domestic violence where the victim survived. Instrumental in the conviction was a videotape he had one of their children film while he was abusing her, along with notes her employee had maintained of visible abuse when she would arrive to work.
"Congratulations on another very successful luncheon! It seems like it gets better every year I don’t think there was a dry eye in that ballroom."
